Yixin Hu

Leader at the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN

Born in France and raised in China until the age of two, she immigrated to Canada in 2009 at the age of three. She is fluent in French, English, and Mandarin.

She is passionate about the protection of human rights, particularly the role of women in society and, more specifically, within marginalized communities. Having grown up in an environment where patriarchal dynamics played a significant role, her commitment to women’s rights was further strengthened through a sociology course she completed at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf.

During her first year in the Civil Law program, she served as First-Year Vice-President of the Family and Youth Law Students’ Association.

She also volunteered with the Pro Bono Students Canada program, contributing to the drafting of an internal memorandum for the Outaouais Notarial Clinic. Passionate about public speaking and advocacy, she participated in both the First-Year Debate Competition, where her team won first place, and the Duclos Debate Competition, where her team reached the finals.

This year, she will continue her involvement within the Faculty of Law as Vice-President of Sponsorships for the Labour and Employment Law Students’ Association.

This summer, she is working as a law student at Lacasse Avocats on Montreal’s South Shore, where she is gaining practical experience alongside general practice lawyers and further developing her interest in private legal practice.
