Mamy Diouma Sow
Leader at the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN
Originally from Dakar, Senegal, Mamy Diouma Sow immigrated to Canada at a young age and grew up navigating between two cultures. This dual identity continues to shape both her academic journey and her commitment to community engagement. She is currently pursuing a joint degree in Civil Law and International Development and Globalization (LL.L./DVM) at the University of Ottawa.
Mamy has been actively involved in her community for several years, particularly in initiatives supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. She has organized large-scale distributions of food, clothing, and essential supplies in both Montreal and Ottawa, while also leading awareness campaigns focused on the realities of homelessness and social exclusion.
At the University of Ottawa, she served as Vice-President of Community Affairs for the Black Law Students’ Association (Civil Law Section) and as Vice-President of Events for the Philanthropy Committee. She now serves as the incoming President of the Black Law Students’ Association for the 2026–2027 academic year. Through these leadership roles, she develops inclusive initiatives that combine community engagement, education, and student mobilization.
Mamy has also distinguished herself through her advocacy skills, notably by winning the Woods Public Speaking Competition in 2026. Her leadership is grounded in action, empathy, and a strong commitment to creating meaningful and lasting impact within her community.
For Mamy, leadership means using one’s voice and abilities to advance justice and support those in need. In the long term, she aspires to become an international lawyer specializing in trade and investment law, with the goal of representing and advancing the interests of countries, particularly in West Africa.
Mamy is fluent in French, English, and Wolof.
