Leadership as Stewardship

Drawing on her 2022 book From Charity to Change: Inside the World of Canadian Foundations (À quoi sert la philanthropie), Hilary Pearson will reflect on leadership in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector. She will explore leadership as stewardship—a values-driven and reflective use of philanthropic power to generate long-term, systemic impact. With decades of experience bridging public policy, philanthropy, and governance, she brings unique insight into how nonprofit leaders can act with integrity, build trust, and influence institutions while staying true to their mission.

This session will invite students to consider how nonprofit leadership, such as leadership in human rights, often involves working from within to transform entrenched systems—and why humility, clarity of purpose, and a commitment to the collective good are essential for meaningful change.
