About the event
Associate Director of the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN, Dr. Ibrahim Salama is the former Head of the Human Rights Treaties Branch at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), where he also directed the "Faith4Rights" program.
Previously, he headed the UN Secretariat for the preparatory process and the 2009 UN World Conference against Racism (Durban Review Conference), and was also Independent Expert of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, as well as Chair of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development.
In 2019, as a visiting scholar at the Geneva Academy, he conducted research on the role and responsibilities of religious actors in human rights, culminating in the development of a toolkit for human rights training for religious actors. As a result, he has co-authored, with Michael Wiener, the book Reconciling Religion and Human Rights: Faith in Multilateralism (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2022) as well as several articles on the training of trainers within the framework of Faith for Rights.
Join us for an insightful presentation with Dr. Ibrahim Salama, where he will dive deep into how this unique framework leverages faith-based perspectives to promote human rights, bridging secular and spiritual efforts for greater impact. Dr. Salama will unpack key toolkit modules, discuss its global impact, and share how it empowers communities to advocate for dignity, equality, and justice across diverse cultures.
