Kenya Yeboah-Whyne

Leader at the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN

Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Kenya will be entering her second year of the Civil Law (LL.L.) program at the University of Ottawa this fall.

Her interest in human rights stems in part from personal experiences that have heightened her awareness of issues related to discrimination, equity, and access to justice. These experiences strengthened her determination to pursue legal studies and to actively contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights.

Alongside her studies, Kenya works at a law firm specializing in immigration and criminal law, where she is gaining valuable insight into the legal system and the realities faced by individuals navigating complex legal challenges. She is also involved as a volunteer with a legal clinic, helping individuals better understand their rights and access legal resources and support.

Through her involvement with the United Nations Human Rights Observatory, Kenya hopes to promote a leadership approach grounded in listening, inclusion, and community engagement. She aspires to use the research, communication, and analytical skills she is developing at the University of Ottawa to raise awareness of human rights issues and contribute to initiatives that create meaningful and lasting impact.

Kenya is bilingual in French and English.
