Chloé Moukheiber

Leader at the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN

Originally from Lebanon, Chloé was born and raised in Rouyn-Noranda, in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec, and is now entering her third year of law studies at the University of Ottawa. She currently serves as Vice-President, Academic Affairs for the Civil Law Students’ Association.

As a woman from a diverse background, and through her personal experiences, Chloé has developed a strong interest in human rights and in the social, cultural, and political dynamics that shape different communities. She is particularly interested in issues related to pluralistic societies, Indigenous self-determination, and processes of reconciliation within and between states.

In her role as Co-Chair of the Philanthropy Committee, Chloé has sought to highlight the privilege of receiving a legal education and the responsibility of future legal professionals to use their knowledge in the service of social change and community engagement.

Throughout her time at the Faculty of Law, Chloé has been deeply involved in student life. She served as a cohort representative during her first and second years, Vice-President of the Mental Health, Wellness, and Academic Affairs Committee, a member of the Family Law Students’ Association, and was actively involved in the Fauteux Fashion Show as both a model and Vice-President of Artistic Design.

For Chloé, becoming a Leader with the Human Rights Observatory represents an opportunity to deepen her knowledge and broaden her understanding of the realities experienced by individuals directly affected by the issues being studied. She hopes to put her learning into practice by contributing meaningfully to impactful and socially engaged initiatives.
