Serge Ashini Goupil
Innu leader from the community of Matimekush–Lac John
Serge Ashini Goupil is an Innu leader from the community of Matimekush–Lac John, as well as a consultant, entrepreneur, cultural guide, and speaker. With more than 25 years of experience, his work focuses on Indigenous governance, territorial issues, sustainable development, community development, environmental matters, and relations between First Nations and governments.
Since 2015, he has served as Secretary General of the Innu Nation Secretariat. As a senior consultant, he has supported First Nations in social, community, environmental, and territorial projects, providing strategic advice on governance, sustainable development, public consultation, territorial negotiations, and community development.
Serge Ashini Goupil is also a co-founder of the Mushuau-Nipi Corporation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering dialogue and stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples through land-based experiences and the transmission of Indigenous knowledge. He has organized educational and cultural stays on ancestral Innu territory, sharing traditional knowledge related to Innu history, culture, and relationships with the land.
He is also the founder of Aventures Ashini, through which he develops Indigenous cultural and ecotourism experiences and promotes sustainable Indigenous tourism in Quebec. Throughout his career, he has contributed to numerous initiatives aimed at protecting the land, strengthening Indigenous communities, promoting Innu heritage, and building bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
