Myrlande Pierre
Vice-President of the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission
Ms. Myrlande Pierre is Vice-President of the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission, having been unanimously appointed by the National Assembly of Quebec in 2019 and reappointed in 2024. She oversees the Commission’s mandate under the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms and the implementation of the Act Respecting Equal Access to Employment in Public Bodies.
Holding a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the University of Geneva and a Master’s degree in Sociology from the Université du Québec à Montréal, she is a recognized expert on immigration, racism, systemic discrimination, and the socioeconomic integration of racialized minorities.
Ms. Pierre has contributed to several United Nations initiatives, including the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. She is regularly invited to speak on human rights, racism, and systemic discrimination in Canada and internationally.
Her career is also marked by extensive community and public engagement. She has served on numerous expert and advisory bodies addressing diversity, inclusion, gender equality, systemic racism, and issues affecting Black communities in Canada.
