Mylène Dimitri

Mylène Dimitri is an international criminal lawyer with more than twenty years of experience before international and domestic courts, specializing in the defence of complex atrocity crime cases, international investigations and strategic litigation. She currently serves as Lead Counsel for Alfred Yekatom before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Central African Republic II situation and previously acted as Associate Counsel for Jean-Pierre Bemba in Article 70 proceedings. She also completed a special assignment of nearly one year with the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.


Throughout her career, Ms. Dimitri has represented senior political and military leaders before the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and Canadian courts exercising universal jurisdiction. Her representative mandates include serving as Lead Counsel for Dr. Augustin Ngirabatware, Co-Counsel for Arsène Shalom Ntahobali, representing the rights and interests of Mustafa Badreddine, and defending Désiré Munyaneza in Canada's first prosecution under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act.


Beyond litigation, Ms. Dimitri is widely recognized for advancing international criminal justice through legal education, institutional dialogue and professional capacity-building. She serves on the Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) Governing Council, where she organized a high-level retreat bringing together representatives of 33 African States Parties to the Rome Statute to advance the Kampala Amendments on the crime of aggression and promote equal treatment of the crime of aggression alongside the other three core international crimes.


As President of the ICCBA Training Committee, she regularly designs and delivers advanced training programmes and train-the-trainer initiatives for lawyers and legal professionals across multiple jurisdictions. She has organized numerous international conferences and panels on advocacy, investigations, ethics, evidence and emerging issues in international criminal law.


A frequent international speaker, Ms. Dimitri is particularly active in the field of artificial intelligence and international criminal justice, organizing and moderating expert panels on the ethical and responsible use of AI, equality of arms, legal innovation and the future of international criminal practice. She has delivered specialized training for Ukrainian lawyers and practitioners in numerous countries, lectured extensively on open-source investigations and defence strategy, and participated as an invited expert at the Nuremberg Academy on improving the efficiency of international criminal proceedings.


Her work combines courtroom advocacy, strategic investigations, institutional leadership and legal innovation, with a continuing commitment to strengthening the quality and accessibility of international criminal justice worldwide.
