Lyna Idir

Lyna Idir is currently in her second year of the Civil Law program at the University of Ottawa. Actively involved in her university community, she serves as Vice-President of the Constitutional Law Association and Vice-President of Internal Affairs of the Debate Committee. Through these roles, she continues to develop her leadership, advocacy, and communication skills while actively contributing to student life.

Her interest in law has developed particularly around human rights, constitutional law, social justice, and advocacy. Throughout her university studies, she notably placed second in the Woods Oratory Competition and was also recognized at the Grand Maillet Gala for her public speaking and advocacy skills. She is involved in various student initiatives aimed at creating spaces for discussion, debate, and learning within the student legal community. These experiences have allowed her to put her public speaking and advocacy skills into practice while strengthening her desire to use the law as a concrete tool to serve others.

As a Leader with the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN, Lyna hopes to further this commitment by using her voice, skills, and legal education to advance human rights. She seeks to raise awareness of fundamental rights issues, engage her community, and amplify the voices of those whose rights are too often overlooked or difficult to assert. For Lyna, the law should never be a privilege reserved for those who know how to claim their rights, but rather an accessible tool that empowers everyone to assert their rights and contribute to building a more just and equitable society.
