John Coleman

A graduate of McGill University (B.A. 1975, Classical languages and literature), John was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for Québec for study at Oxford University where he earned his B.A./M.A. in Jurisprudence (1978). He completed his legal studies at McGill University (B.C.L/LL.B. 1980). John enjoyed a successful legal career practising in the field of labour law at the law firm of Ogilvy Renault where, as the firm's Canadian National Managing Partner, he developed and led the firm's international merger strategy with the London-based international firm of Norton Rose, the Calgary firm of MacLeod Dixon and finally the U.S. firm of Fulbright and Jaworski. John served as a member of Norton Rose's Global Board of directors.

In 2017, John was appointed by the Quebec Government to the position of Agent General (Délégué général) in London U.K. where he had responsibility for Québec's economic, political, scientific and cultural relations with the U.K., Ireland and the Nordic countries. Since his return to Canada, John has acted as a legal consultant for, inter alia, Air Canada and sits on the Board of Directors of Aer Rianta. John has been an active member of the community through his association with, inter alia, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation as a Mentor, the Montreal Children's Hospital, the McGill University Health Centre, Les Violons du Roy, the Centaur Theatre, as well as the selection committees for the Rhodes Scholarships and the McCall MacBain Scholarships
