Jean-Claude Poitras

For more than three decades (1972–2002), Jean-Claude Poitras built an exceptional career as one of Canada's most influential fashion designers. In 2002, he shifted his focus to multidisciplinary design, expanding his creative practice across a wide range of artistic disciplines while continuing to explore new forms of expression.

Alongside his work as a designer, he developed a distinguished career as a journalist and columnist beginning in 2004, contributing to numerous publications, including *La Semaine* and *Formes*. Since 2008, he has written a monthly design column for *Le Devoir*, sharing his perspective on architecture, design, culture, and creativity.

In 2012, marking the 40th anniversary of his career, Poitras revealed a new facet of his artistic practice with his first solo visual arts exhibition in Montréal. Since then, he has developed numerous collaborative projects that bring together visual arts, design, and innovation, while serving internationally as an ambassador for Québec design.

Today, Jean-Claude Poitras continues to distinguish himself as a visionary designer, artist, speaker, philanthropist, consultant, and mentor dedicated to supporting the next generation of Québec creators. He celebrated 50 years of creative achievement in 2022, and 2027 marks the 55th anniversary of his remarkable career.

One of the few fashion designers to have left an enduring mark on both women's and men's fashion, Poitras has become synonymous with a distinctly recognizable creative signature. Throughout his career, he has championed Québec design as a powerful expression of cultural identity, both at home and on the international stage.

His work continues to evolve through an inclusive and collaborative vision that brings people together across generations.
