Dominique Attias
Vice-President of the Paris Bar (2016–2017)
Dominique Attias obtained a Master’s degree in law from the University of Paris II and was sworn in on February 4, 1981.
She embarked on her career as a business lawyer. In 1989, she co-founded the law firm “Attias & Jauze” with Xavier Jauze, with a focus on real estate law, personal law (especially involving minors), customs law, financial criminal law, and business law.
In 1999, she received a Diploma of Higher University Studies (DESU) focused on practices with migrant families at the University of Paris VIII. This training, along with the associated ethnopsychiatry consultations, sparked her interest in juvenile justice, causing a transformation in her practice. She furthered her studies in 2004 with a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in clinical psychology and psychopathologies, presenting a dissertation on “The Lawyer for Minors through Ethnopsychiatry” under the supervision of Tobie Nathan.
Attias joined the Conseil National des Barreaux in 2009 and initiated a think tank aimed at reforming juvenile justice in France.
On June 25, 2015, she was elected as the vice-president of Paris Bar, serving alongside Frédéric Sicard. She officially took office on January 1, 2016. As the first woman to hold this position, she became a strong advocate for the feminization of the title.
On August 4, 2016, in collaboration with Robert Badinter, former Keeper of the Seals, former President of the Constitutional Council, and Frédéric Sicard, President of the Paris Bar, she penned an article in Liberation, urging the French and European authorities to condemn the attacks on freedoms and the rule of law in Turkey.
Since May 2018, Dominique Attias has held the position of first vice-president of the European Bar Federations (FBE). She also serves as the secretary general of the Louis Chatin Association, an organization dedicated to the defense of children’s rights.
