Anne-Sophie Pierre
Leader at the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN
Having grown up in Montreal and being of Haitian descent, Anne-Sophie Pierre is currently entering her third year of the Civil Law program at the University of Ottawa. Her interest in human rights first developed at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, where she had the honour of serving as President of the Afro-Descendant Cultures Committee. Through several of her courses, she was encouraged to reflect on issues related to human rights, fostering a deep commitment to these questions. Over the past year, this interest has taken on a more legal dimension, particularly through her studies in constitutional rights and freedoms, a subject she greatly enjoyed.
Throughout her second year of law school, Anne-Sophie was actively involved in student life. She served as Vice-President of the mentorship program within the Black Law Students’ Association and as Vice-President of Events for the Labour and Employment Law Association. She also held the position of Vice-President of Diversity for the Fauteux Fashion Show, helping promote greater inclusion within the student community.
This year, she will continue her involvement as an Advisor with the University of Ottawa Law Students’ Association (AED). She looks forward to supporting the Association’s various initiatives and being a resource for students across the Faculty of Law.
Committed to advancing respect for human rights for all, Anne-Sophie views her involvement with the Observatory as a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful, action-oriented projects and to be an agent of positive change.
